Woods looks unbeatable for 2008 US Masters
With the first of the year’s majors looming in just over a month, the golf world is pondering whether it can produce any player capable of preventing Tiger Woods from claiming his fifth US Masters title. Although Woods hasn’t won the Masters since 2005, his brilliant recent form has suggested that the Green Jacket is already being tailored to his measurements.
This enthusiasm for Wood’s golfing potency may seem somewhat amiss given the fact that he somehow managed to squander a win at the WGC-CA Championships on the weekend, bogeying back to back holes to hand victory to Geoff Ogilvy. However, the manner of Wood’s loss indicates just why he is such a threat.
In essence, Tiger Woods gave away the WGC-CA Championships, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. He denied himself a win, rather than being denied by a superior player. Geoff Ogilvy would have claimed the trophy knowing that he lost to a better player.
If Tiger Woods approaches anything like his best form at the 2008 US Masters it is hard to see who will pose a genuine threat to his title aspirations. While Phil Mickelson and Jim Furyk are both capable of holding their own on the day, they’ll need to play above themselves to beat the world number one.
