US Masters 2008: Report on Day 2

28 Year old South African golfer Trevor Immelman leads the field going into the second day of the 2008 US Masters. Immelman repeated his performance of the first day of the 2008 US Masters to card another 4 under par round and place himself 8 under for the tournament.

Immelman sank five birdie putts to create his lead, with one of these coming from 15 feet out. The South African is now strongly positioned to win his first major, but will have to hold his nerve with bad weather expected to hit Augusta National Golf Course over the weekend.

Tiger Woods, meanwhile, is failing to live up to his billing as tournament favourite, and is 7 shots off the lead after a dreadful day which was rescued only by some brilliant play on the 18th hole. Woods believes he can still take the Masters if he can remain patient.

However with his biggest rival, Phil Mickelson, currently on 5 under par, Woods will have a hard time clawing himself back into the US Masters. Bar a poor performance by Mickelson on the weekend, Woods may see his hopes of winning a fifth green jacket evaporate by Saturday evening.
