Trevor Immelman wins 2008 US Masters
On Sunday Trevor Immelman became only the second South African, and the first in thirty years, to win the US Masters.
Tervor Immelman’s victory came despite a nervous afternoon that saw him hit the ball into a water hazard on the 16th hole, hit a bunker on the 17th hole and then land his ball in a divet off the tee shot on the 18th.
Despite thesse setbacks, Immelman’s nerve held, and he sank his putt shot for par on the 18th hole, earning himself the much coveted Green Jacket.
In a day that saw a number of top golfers card 75+ rounds of golf, Brandt Snedeker and Tiger Woods were unable to gain ground on Immelman as both missed a series of crucial birdie putts. Tiger Woods managed to birdie the 18th to finish on 5 under, claiming second place, while Brandt Snedeker finished the tournament 3rd on 4 under.
All eyes will now turn to the 2008 US Open to be held at Torrey Pines Golf Course in June, where Argentinean Angel Cabrera will be looking to defend his title against a field of over 150 top golfers.
